The village Nea Peramos nearby Kavala in Greece

In order to prevent misunderstandings: Nea Peramos nearby Kavala is neither a Greek counterpart to "Ballermann" on Mallorca and neither it belongs to the trendy "jet set places". However, due to it's privileged location the agriculturally shaped village Nea Peramos represents since many years a popular seaside resort for inhabitants from back country and surrounding towns.
The pictures on this site were taken up in summer 2004.

Historical review
The history of the village Nea Peramos begins in the 7th century BCE when the Thassian colony Oisyme was founded. In the place of the antique settlement, for the first time in 9th century the "Anaktoroupolis" (= palace city) is mentioned, at that time a bishop seat, and is considered today as one of the most important antique and archaeological places in the area of the prefecture of Kavala.

During the Byzantine era the bay of Eleftherae represented an important harbour in the northern Aegean sea.
The fall of the Anaktoroupolis and finally it's elimination took place during the 14th and 15th century when the Ottoman Empire raised up and expanded.

Today's inhabitants of Nea Peramos in their majority are descended from refugees which had been chased out by Turks at the beginning of the 1920's from Peramos in Asia Minor, according to the convention about the exchange of ethnical minorities between Greek and Turkey.
